Hi-Tech Closets: Safety & Assembly Guidelines

Important Notice

Please read these safety and assembly guidelines carefully before installing or using your Hi-Tech Closets system. Proper handling and installation help ensure your storage system is secure, stable, and functions as intended.

Safety Warnings & Instructions

1. Choking & Small Parts Hazard
This product may contain small components (such as fasteners, dowels, or cam locks) that pose a choking risk for young children. Keep all parts out of reach of children and always supervise children around installed units.

2. Moving, Unloading & Weight Limits

  • Before relocating or repositioning any system, remove all stored items. An overloaded unit may become unstable and tip over, causing injury or damage.

  • Do not exceed the maximum weight load. If any shelf, rail, or support begins to bow or deflect more than 3/4 inch (18 mm) under load, immediately reduce the weight as this indicates potential overload and risk of collapse.

3. Climbing or Using as a Step Platform
Do not climb on, stand on, or use the system’s shelving or hanging rods as a ladder or step stool. Doing so can destabilize the structure and increase the risk of tipping or collapse.

4. Attaching Items to Unit Surfaces
Avoid mounting or affixing items (hooks, shelves, accessories) to the front, side or rear panels unless explicitly approved by Hi-Tech Closets. Wrong attachments can alter the center-of-gravity and compromise safety.

5. Handle Components with Care During Assembly
When assembling the system:

  • Avoid forcing cam posts, dowels or connectors into place; incorrect insertion may compromise stability.

  • Work on a protected surface to prevent damage to components and keep fasteners organized to avoid disassembly.

6. Wall-Mounting & Anchoring

  • Secure every tall or wall-mounted module to wall studs using screws through the rear cleats or designated anchoring points. This is mandatory for stability and safety.

  • If mounting on drywall only, use appropriate anchors rated for the load and local requirements.

  • Check for local building or fire code requirements before installation.

7. Proper Use of Tools & Ladders

  • Use ladders and tools according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

  • Wear safety glasses and gloves during drilling or installation.

  • When cutting, drilling or sanding panels, follow local respiratory-dust safety rules (see step 9 for jobsite safety).

8. Surface Protection During Assembly
To protect countertops, flooring or work surfaces, use drop cloths or protective pads while assembling. This prevents scratches, dents or damage to finish surfaces.

9. Job-Site Modifications & Cutting
If you or your installer modify panels (cutting to fit, trimming molding etc.):

  • Use proper dust extraction or wear respiratory protection, particularly when working with composite materials.

  • Ensure waste or off-cuts are removed promptly and safely.

  • Avoid installing shelving into unreinforced wall surfaces — seek advice if wall structure is compromised.

What to Check Before Use

  • Ensure the system is level, plumb and firmly anchored.

  • Verify that no component is protruding or unsecured.

  • Load shelves gradually—start with lighter items and observe any deflection.

  • Confirm hanging rods or rails are secure and designed for the intended garment weight.

Routine Maintenance & Safe Use

  • Periodically check that anchoring screws remain tight, and no wall anchors have loosened.

  • Avoid abrupt or uneven loading that could unbalance the system.

  • Reorganize stored items if you notice sagging shelves or shifting units.

  • If moving the system to a new location, dismantle safely and re-anchor at the new site.
