FAQ

Do you offer wall-mounted or floor-based closet systems?

We offer two versatile installation options: wall-mounted and floor-mounted closet systems. Our wall-mounted system is the most popular and versatile choice, engineered to anchor directly into the wall studs for maximum strength and stability. Perfect for any organized spaces in your house, this system keeps the floor clear for easy cleaning and additional storage. Plus, it installs cleanly — no need for baseboard modifications or shimming on uneven floors or walls.

Our floor-based system rests on the floor for support and is securely fastened to the wall for added stability. It’s ideal for creating a built-in look in your space and especially appreciated in areas like walk-in closets, pantries, entryways, and window benches. Often compared to upgraded and high-end  built custom ins.

Both options deliver exceptional durability, modern style, and the custom fit.

What materials do you use for your closets?

At Hi-Tech Closets, every system is built using ¾-inch Thermally Fused Laminate (TFL) panels made from premium, industrial-grade Canadian particleboard. This is the same durable material trusted throughout the North American commercial and residential furniture industry for its strength, consistency, and long-lasting performance.

Each panel’s decorative surface is fused to the core under heat and pressure, creating a smooth, scratch-resistant finish that stands up to everyday use. Our panels feature exceptional screw-holding capacity and structural integrity — a properly designed and installed section can support up to 1,000 pounds, provided the weight is evenly distributed across all intersections.

If you plan to hang or store heavy items beyond clothing, please inform your Hi-Tech team member so your system can be engineered accordingly.

Can I take my my system if I move?

Yes, but because every system is custom-fit to your original home, it may not transition perfectly to a new space. Many clients choose to design a new system for their next home — and often become repeat customers.

Can I adjust the shelves and rods in my closet?

At Hi-Tech Closets, all of our custom closet systems are designed with flexibility in mind.  Our 5 mm (3/16") system holes, spaced 32 mm (1 1/4") apart, provide full adjustability and compatibility for shelves, drawers, and accessories within your custom closet system.. Shelves rest on sturdy pins that can be repositioned anytime to fit your evolving storage needs — simply move the pins to a new level. For even greater versatility, our locking-cam shelves and hanging rods can be adjusted up or down using a screwdriver.

Because each system is custom-cut to your exact measurements, changing the width of closet sections later might require new shelves, vertical panels and other parts that can be easily purchased.

What is the depth of your system?

Our standard, and most common depth for wall-mounted systems is 14 inches, which aligns with the closet industry standard.

For floor-mounted systems, we offer multiple depth options depending on the application , 14", 18", and 23" — to suit a wide range of storage needs. The 14-inch depth is typically reserved for  folded clothes, shoe shelving, hanging, as well as our standard drawer depth. The 18" depth is common for bench seat and mudrooms. The 23" for the cabinets with doors that accommodate hanging.

Why standard height is 7 feet?

Using a standard 8-foot ceiling (96"), we maintain a top shelf height of 84". This allows approximately 12" of usable space above the shelf. From this benchmark, hanging heights are derived:

  • Double-hang: 40" top + 40" bottom

  • Tall hang: 65"

  • Medium hang: 50–55"

  • Short hang: 40"
If you’re over 6 feet tall or have non-standard ceiling heights, we can customize the layout accordingly.

Shipping timelines may vary, and we recommend contacting our team to confirm your estimated delivery date. Please note that certain conditions, such as severe weather, supply chain disruptions and other unforeseen circumstances may affect transit times.

Every project is shipped via parcel or freight carrier and includes an Installation Manual, and all required hardware, making installation simple and straightforward — whether you’re a homeowner or professional installer.

Can I order just individual components?

Yes—if you've already purchased a system from us, you can order additional or replacement parts (shelves, rods, hardware, etc.). Just provide your original order details for reference.

Can I cancel an order once placed?

Unfortunately, no. Because each system is custom-fabricated, orders are final once submitted. We recommend confirming all measurements and design details before placing your order. If you have concerns, contact our design team for help before checkout.

When will I receive my system?

After ordering, your project goes into production immediately. Shipping times vary, however we strive to ship in 5-7 business days after placing the order. Check with a design team member for the latest estimate.

We guarantee replacement of damaged or missing parts within 30 days of delivery—at no extra cost. Submit your request via your order history or contact our support team.

Can I change shipping methods (parcel vs. freight)?

Yes, but changing from freight (LTL) to parcel incurs an 10% surcharge. Also note, larger or heavier parts may still ship via freight.

What if delivery is affected by weather or access issues?

Deliveries may be delayed by extreme weather. Freight carriers deliver curbside only. If delivery requires special handling or storage, additional fees may apply and will be your responsibility.

Do I have to pay tariffs when receiving my closet if it’s purchased from the USA?

No. As of October 1, 2025, our products comply with CUSMA and are tariff-free when shipped to the United States.

Is installation difficult?

Not at all. Systems come pre-drilled, pre-cut, and include all necessary hardware and instructions. Most customers DIY their installation; others prefer hiring local help.

Recently, we’ve had many clients report using TaskRabbit services for general furniture assembly.

We are not affiliated with TaskRabbit in any way; we’re simply sharing customer feedback.

What tools do I need?

Basic tools like a tape measure, level, drill, screwdriver, and possibly a hacksaw for minor cuts are sufficient. We include detailed instructions to walk you through each step.

Can I install on concrete walls or metal studs?

For concrete, use masonry screws. For metal studs, use the toggle bolts.

Do your systems come with a warranty?

Yes—we provide a Limited Lifetime Warranty on materials and workmanship and manufacturers warranty for hardware and accessories.

We accept returns of unused in original packaging materials within 30 days. Return shipping is the customer’s responsibility.
